At Cowbridge School, pupils in Years 7 and 8 develop a broad range of skills designed to support lifelong learning and personal development. These years build a foundation across the six Areas of Learning and Experience within the Curriculum for Wales, focusing on both academic and practical competencies.

Literacy, numeracy, and digital competence are integral cross-curricular skills. Students enhance their reading, writing, and communication abilities across subjects, develop confidence in applying mathematical reasoning in real-life contexts, and gain essential digital skills, from researching responsibly online to using digital tools for creative and collaborative work.

Critical thinking and problem-solving are nurtured through enquiry-based learning, encouraging pupils to ask questions, analyse information, and evaluate outcomes. Creativity and innovation are supported across subjects like the expressive arts and design and technology. Personal and social skills also play a key role, with pupils developing emotional intelligence, resilience, and the ability to work effectively both independently and in teams.

There is also a strong emphasis on ethical understanding and global citizenship, helping learners appreciate different perspectives and become informed, empathetic individuals. Overall, the skills developed during Years 7 and 8 lay the groundwork for success in further education and future employment.
