As part of the integrated and wider curriculum at Cowbridge School we wish to ensure that all pupils are ready to learn, show respect for themselves and others and behave safely in order to thrive in life and learning. As part of our commitment to ensuring habits for success we have increased the number of opportunities to enhance pupils’ fitness, health and wellbeing. Across all year groups, the opportunity for physical activity has been increased as part of timetabled lessons.
Physical activity has important benefits for physical and academic achievement and impacts positively on mental wellbeing. Across all year groups, designated lessons in PE, fitness and wellbeing, focus on a range of topics and we encourage all parents to regularly explore these themes with young people to reinforce key messages and develop healthy lifestyle choices. This October, the focus has been on physical activity to enhance mental wellbeing.
A useful link for guidelines in relation to the benefits of exercise for different ages can be found below.
Young children (under 5 years)
Children and young people (5-18 years)
The following themes will be delivered in designated PE, fitness and wellbeing lessons and we will send regular information to keep you informed so that you can encourage your child(ren) to adopt these habits over time and incrementally.
After half term the topic will include the importance of sleep and recovery and information in relation to the teenage Circadian Rhythm.
