Keeping Our Community Safe: A Note on School Site Driving
Any parent/carer who has ever dropped off or picked up their child from Cowbridge School will be aware that our school site is a busy place. We have previously shared information about our expectations when driving on the school site but wish to remind all members of our school community of these. Please share this information with anyone, e.g. grandparent, family member, who may be dropping off or collecting your child from Cowbridge School.
To ensure every child arrives and leaves safely, we rely on the cooperation and patience of our entire parent / carer community. A few seconds of saved time is never worth the risk of an accident.
Expectations when driving on site:
- Slow Down: The speed limit on school grounds is strictly 5mph. This gives you the reaction time needed if a child unexpectedly steps into the road.
- Eyes on the Road: Please refrain from using mobile phones or adjusting sat-navs until you are safely parked and the engine is off.
- Use Designated Zones: Only drop off or pick up in the marked areas. Double-parking or stopping in "no parking" areas create dangerous blind spots for other drivers and pedestrians.
- Patience is Key: Traffic flow can be slow during peak times. Please remain patient with staff and fellow parents; a calm environment makes for a safer environment.
- Engine Off: To keep our air clean and protect our students' health, please turn off your engine while waiting rather than idling.
- No Movement until Directed: Cars should not be moved until staff on duty have indicated that it is safe to do so. This includes “straightening up”; moving from a parking bay to the cones / safety barrier in order to queue to leave; and any other unnecessary movement.
If you are in a rush, consider parking elsewhere and walking the final stretch or having your child walk to meet you.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school a safe place for our children to learn and grow.
